Intrace

Smart System to Alert and Rescue People During Earthquakes

About Intrace

In September of 2017, two devastating earthquakes hit Mexico City and surrounding states with a magnitude of 7.1, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Many buildings collapsed during and after the earthshaking tremors. Not just Mexico City but many other cities have suffered an increasing frequency of catastrophic earthquakes and human loss. The major cause of deaths through earthquakes is buildings that collapse. In many cities at seismic risk sites, the majority of buildings are old and not thoroughly designed for resisting earthquakes, so the probability of buildings collapsing is high. Security and Emergency Departments distribute rescue teams to search for people trapped under the rubble. Finding and pulling out people from beneath the ruins may take minutes, hours, even whole days, because there is no way to reliably know where to look. The probability of people surviving under the rubble decreases with every minute.
Intrace is an immediate solution, able to increase the number of survivors if a building collapses during and after an earthquake. The Intrace device reduces the probability of people being severely injured during the tremors by assisting people in following safety procedures. At the same time, the device captures data from inside the building and sends it to the Security and Emergency Departments. Intrace makes it possible to know the exact number of people trapped in each collapsed building and their location, so there is no need to search randomly.
