The challenge

Open to students, professionals and enthusiasts, the 19th edition of the BraunPrize challenges creative minds to envision the extra in the ordinary. It can be something that changes the quality of your life or the world, simple or complex, big or small, physical or virtual… We are looking for the solutions that are better by design and ideas that appear obvious and even extraordinary in hindsight. Our everyday is becoming an artificial environment of architecture and technology and while
it seems that the quantity of products around us is constantly increasing, their level of quality, both in execution and thinking, is not. We surround ourselves with things we don’t really value, instead of focusing on fewer but better solutions that contribute to our lives. With this in mind, the BraunPrize 2015 is looking for product design concepts including interactive product experiences that are extraordinary.

Submission period

January 30 – May 10, 2015 (extended) For the BraunPrize competition Students and Professionals&Enthusiasts are invited to enter innovative product ideas and concepts that are extraordinary. Participants can use the online registration and upload function to submit their projects during the submission period.

In our experience, finding that Extra in the Ordinary can sometimes take extra time. We’ve received requests from Universities and Design schools around the world to move our initial deadline. Because we live in a real-time world, the deadline has been extended by 10 days. The submissions can now be uploaded until May 10, 2015 (instead of April 30, 2015).

Judging process

Jury session – June 2015 In the jury session, the entries are evaluated by the five member jury with great care and thoroughness; many discussions will follow to select the best entries. In the next judging step the finalists for Gold-Silver-Bronze Awards in each category are chosen, as well as the winners of the Sustainability Awards. In addition, the jury will select further outstanding projects to be part of the BraunPrize exhibition.
Notification of nomination – From July onwards All selected finalists, special mentions and Sustainability Award winners will be notified via email after the jury session, in the beginning of July 2015. They will receive further information about next steps to prepare their entries for publication and/or presentation to the design forum. A physical design model will only need to be submitted if specifically requested by us. Of course, we will make travel arrangements and cover the costs for travel and accommodation for the award winners.

Final judging forum – September 2015 The final selection of award winners will be made in the “Design Forum”. Here, the finalists will present their projects to the jury and an invited audience made up of representatives from the design sector and other areas of industry, technology and the media with a special interest in the field of design. The Gold, Silver and Bronze winners of each category will then be selected.

BraunPrize event

Professional&Enthusiast: professional designers, design interested enthusiasts and inventors who have a clever product concept

  • The BP team ensures that the jury decisions and reporting are carried out according to the agreed process, but does not take part in the jury’s duties nor decision-making in any way.
  • The BP team must not make any assessment of the quality of submitted design work. The quality of the submissions alone will determine the jury’s selection of project nominations. For this reason, the names of participants must remain anonymous until the jury decision is final. The BP team ensures that each submission does not show any distinguishing mark or signature, so that each entry will be presented to the jury anonymously.
